Data from three GPS stations located around the area of Mount Merapi (-7.53, 110.43) has been used to study the effect of the Mount Merapi eruptions on the generation of the atmospheric gravity waves (AGW) at the height of the ionosphere. Data with a resolution of 30 seconds of GPS receiver from National Land Agency (BPN, Badan Pertanahan Nasional) namely Slaman ((-7.706, 110.3), Boyolali ((-7.54, 110.6) and Demak ((-6.89, 110.63) has been processed to obtain TEC (Total Electron Content). Mount Merapi erupted on October 25, 2010 at 14:04, 14:24 and 15:15 local time caused 222 volcanic earthquakes and hot gas spewed into atmosphere. To detect changes in the TEC due to the eruption, data from all three stations were analyzed by using TEC deviation (DTEC) and high pass filter to separate of small to medium temporal scale of disturbances with particular attention to the satellite at sub- ionospheric point (ionospheric pierce point IPP) which is about 300 km altitude. Analysis of TEC deviation from three GPS stations after several hours of the eruption showed ionospheric disturabances with the scale of period of less than 30 minutes. The disturbances occurred at about 16:30 UT or 23:30 local time with a maximum amplitude (peak to peak) of 1.5 TECU (1 TECU = 1016 elektron/m2 ) observed at Boyolali station. Amplitude disturbances were weakened observed at Demak station. From these amplitude and period, it is suspected that there has been penetration of atmospheric gravity waves in the ionospheric height namely medium scale travelling ionospheric disturbance (MSTID), because of the TID is a manisfestation of atmospheric gravity waves at the ionospheric height.
